STUDENTS COMPETE IN SCIENCE ODYSSEY
Over 500 students entered projects in the Livermore Valley Joint Unified
School District's Science Odyssey held on March 16 and 17. This science
fair, now in its ninth year, is open to the District students in

closing Portola Elementary
School as a cost-saving measure. This step
will only cover 5%

this year's awards for staff and students.

COMMUNITY BUILDS A GARDEN
The Portola Elementary School community came together on
Saturday, April 25th to build a community
garden and beautify the campus. Planting boxes were
installed and filled with soil, seeds and starter
plants were planted, pots were painted and filled with
flowers, and irrigation systems were installed.

BOARD APPROVES MICHELL AS K-8 FOR SEPTEMBER
Board
members in March OK'd the transformation of the
former kindergarten through fifth-grade Joe Michell School into the
district's first kindergarten through eighth-grade school, much to the
delight of parents and school staff who have been pushing for the

LHS OPENS NEW SCIENCE WING
Thanks to $11 million in fees paid by Livermore
Developers, Livermore High has a new science wing and quad area designed
to relieve overcrowding on the campus and provide state-of-the-art
facilities needed to meet the new science curriculum.

OF POSSIBLE BUDGET REDUCTIONS CONSIDERED
At this week's (3/17) meeting of the Board of
Education, the Superintendent will present a list of possible budget
reductions for discussion. She will ask the Board for feedback
on the list of reductions and will return to the Boad at their April
7th meeting with recommendations for budget reductions for the
2009-2010 school year.

INTERIM FINANCIAL REPORT
This state-mandated financial report describes the
financial condition of the School District as of January 31, 2009. It
will be presented to the Board of Education for their approval at their
March 17th meeting.

ME A BOOK ORGANIZATION DONATES CHILDREN'S LITERATURE
The non-profit Bring Me A Book
organization, whose mission is to
provide easy access to children's
books and inspire reading aloud to
children, donated two bookcases of children's
literature to Marylin Avenue Elementary School through their Bookshelf

HIGH SENIORS HELPING SENIORS
Each year the Livermore High School Senior Class holds
a fund raiser dinner-dance to support the Senior Services Program
of the
Livermore Area Recreation and Park District. This year
the event was held at the Robert LIvermore
Community
Center
and included a pasta dinner, entertainment by LHS
senior Stevie Rae Stevens, and a raffle of specialty baskets.
